single point urban interchange
[edit]Reference 6 relates to a tight diamond interchange. Better to compare to a diverging diamond interchange that has only two phase signals. This then has 50% more capacity than a single point interchange because of fewer phases, and because of shorter clearance distances that waste time and cause blockages when combined with freeway ramp metering. It also has 50% fewer crashes. It follows that diverging diamond interchanges have more capacity and safety and it is hard to see where a single point interchange would have any advantage.
